Oscar Rejlander - The two ways of life (1817-1875) on one side this shows the upperclass and the other shows the lower class. Notice how you don't see the harlots faces. It is showing indulgence and that if your hard-working you go to heaven.This was done using the same people throughout using multiple exposures and changing position. I thought that was quite clever.
30 Years later there were faster exposure times and you could see breaking waves.
This image -Mellet- The gleaners- shows social concious and the inequalities in life. They are picking up scraps from the harvest, the bits that the other people left behind.
A point was made that the class distinction means that reach people go out to be seen so they dress nice etc but I don't remember the photo for this.
In December 1910 human character changed. cubism occurred showing speed and movement.
If you pronounce the letters in French they sound like a French phrase meaning - she's got a hot arse. I thought that was quite funny.
In more modern times tattoos are acceptable in our culture but they will die out. They are there to look pretty (ornamentation).
More modern buildings were being made with a sense of clean. Everything was smooth concrete, glass, reinforced steel and everything was painted in simple colours like white. 'War is the worlds only hygiene'
The Bauhaus school was taken over by Nazis for offices.
The Barcelona chair design becomes minimalist on posters.
